Overview

The Lead Business Intelligence Developer is a senior technical leader who delivers trusted, enterprise-grade BI data models and curated datasets that support reporting and self-service analytics across clinical, operational, and other domains. Lead Developer exhibits deep BI expertise and strong leadership, autonomy, and decision-making accountability. Developer sets standards for data modeling, metric definitions, and analytics best practices, while leading by example through hands-on development, technical guidance, and mentorship. The Lead BI Developer partners with cross-functional teams to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and scalability, and plays a key role in prioritization, design decisions, and continuous improvement of BI capabilities. The Lead BI Developer focuses on the analytics consumption and semantic layer, leveraging platforms such as Epic and Databricks, and ensuring analytics-ready data that enables reliable insights and self-service across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-quality, reusable BI data products (datasets, semantic models, reports, and dashboards) within the Epic ecosystem (Clarity, Caboodle, Cogito, etc.) to support reliable analytics and self-service reporting across the organization. Provide technical leadership by setting best practices, guiding design decisions, and mentoring team members to elevate overall BI capability.
  • Drive adoption and effective use of enterprise governed data products by providing advanced guidance, consultation, and technical leadership to data practitioners and stakeholders, enabling consistent, trusted self-service analytics across the organization with a focus on the Ambulatory and Access spaces. 
  • Design, build, and maintain reliable, scalable data pipelines and analytics-ready deliverables sourced mainly from the Epic ecosystem (Clarity, Caboodle, Cogito), ensuring accurate extraction, transformation, and integration into the CMDP and other downstream analytics platforms. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior BI developers and analytics partners, promoting best practices and consistent, high-quality delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5-7 years' experience. Relevant experience in business intelligence, analytics engineering, data analytics, or related experience. Preferred hands-on exposure to Epic data systems and modern data platforms. OR
  • Associate's Degree and 7 or more years' experience. Relevant experience in business intelligence, analytics engineering, data analytics, or related experience. Preferred hands-on exposure to Epic data systems and modern data platforms.
    • At least 1 application specific Epic certification within the first 120 days of hire. Tracked by department leader. Required

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $50.52/hr, but your salaried offer will be determined based upon your education and experience.

 

 

Remote Work/Work from Home

This is an intermittent remote position, which means that the person hired will work with his or her manager to determine a schedule that includes both at home and on-site hours at a Children’s Mercy location. The incumbent must live in the Kansas City metro area.
