Overview

The Sr. Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing scalable data solutions that support Children's Mercy analytics and operational needs. This role leads the development of modern, cloud-native data pipelines and contributes to the evolution of the data platform architecture. The Sr. Data Engineer collaborates across teams to ensure data quality, governance, and performance, while mentoring peers and driving innovation in data engineering practices.

 

It is preferred that candidates live in Kansas or Missouri. 

 

Ideal candidates will have experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory. Experience in Python, SQL, Spark and Terraform are also important to this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop data platform pipelines and processes through leading design, implementation, and integration by partnering with stakeholders and architects to integrate emerging technologies. Senior Data Engineers lead the design and delivery of scalable, cloud-native data pipelines that align with business and analytics goals. They collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions, own end-to-end workflow implementation, and partner with architects to evolve platform capabilities. Work includes integrating emerging technologies and optimizing pipelines for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Perform thorough testing of processes to ensure continuous accuracy and reliability. Senior Data Engineers ensure data accuracy and reliability by establishing automated testing frameworks and implementing monitoring tools. They lead debugging efforts, conduct code reviews, and collaborate with analysts and architects to meet business and compliance standards, continuously improving pipeline performance and maintainability.
  • Proactively maintain technical competency through professional development and cross-functional collaboration. Senior Data Engineers maintain technical expertise by researching modern practices, leading proof-of-concept initiatives, and mentoring team members. They actively engage in professional development, contribute to knowledge sharing, and influence platform strategy through cross-functional collaboration and thought leadership.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare Data Science or similar and 3-5 years experience in data engineering, including cloud-native development, distributed systems, and data architecture or related experience. or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, or similar and 5-7 years experience in data engineering, including cloud-native development, distributed systems, and data architecture or related experience.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $48.12/hr, but your salaried offer will be determined based upon your education and experience.

 

 

Remote Work/Work from Home

This is an intermittent remote position, which means that the person hired will work with his or her manager to determine a schedule that includes both at home and on-site hours at a Children’s Mercy location. The incumbent must live in the Kansas City metro area.
