Overview

Developmental and Behavioral Health Services at Children’s Mercy cares for children and teens who need extra support with developmental, psychiatric, or psychological concerns. We understand that a child’s mental, emotional, and behavioral health is an integral part of their well-being. Each patient is paired with a personalized care team of developmental pediatricians, psychologists, and/or psychiatrists who to provide medical evaluation and specialty care for children with developmental disorders such as autism and intellectual disability, manage medication and other treatments for symptoms such as impulsivity, inattention, anxiety and agitation and mental health conditions such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, Tourette’s and eating disorders.   

 

Administrative Assistants for Developmental and Behavioral Health Services are responsible for gathering necessary patient information to ensure referrals are processed properly to receive high quality, efficient care. As well as maintaining community resources and service waitlist databases. The Intake Administrative Assistant will triage and respond to communication from referring providers and patients and families. 

 

Provides general administrative support to various roles within the department including composing and typing routine correspondence and/or reports, completing administrative projects such as creating and updating databases, communicating with parents regarding seeking care within the division, scheduling appointments for patients within the division, checking insurance to ensure proper coverage for services, coordinating travel arrangements, records and transcribes assigned committee meeting minutes, aids in preparing various materials for meetings, and scheduling/coordinating meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients and families with necessary paperwork, checking financial forms and other forms for completion and verification.  
  • Speak directly with patients and families, when necessary, in a calm and professional manner.  
  • Assists with providing community resources to families when necessary. 
  • Provide updates on status of patient referral or place on service waitlist directly to patient/family. 
  • Collect and enter the information of individuals served into the system in a concise, thorough, and accurate manner.  
  • File and/or scan all documents when needed. 
  • Coordinate movement of referral upon completion to appropriate queue for scheduling.    
  • Maintain current and up to date data concerning community services offered, accepted insurance plans, and any other pertinent information. 
  • Establishes, modifies, and maintains system for tracking the progress of referrals and service waitlist. 
  • Assist with office duties.   
  • Upholds positive interpersonal relations among all team members.  
  • Use initiative and good, sound judgment.  
  • Able to be flexible.  

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years experience

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $19.68/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

 

 

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
