Do you envision finding a meaningful role with an inclusive and compassionate team while caring for kids?  This 8 week training program may be for you.  We are seeking candidates who are interested in gaining the clinical skills training needed to become a successful Care Assistant (similar to a CNA) on one of our inpatient medical/surgical units.  Candidates must be available M-F during the day for the training and then transition to working 12 hour night shifts ( 7p-7a) after the training.

Overview

Care Assistants provide basic, uncomplicated patient care and assist with unit/department operations under the supervision of RN, Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager or Resource Manager assigned to supervise the Care Assistant and in accordance with this job description. Those in the Introductory Care Assistant position are employed by Children's Mercy while they complete a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program.

If you are selected for this position, you will be asked to supply your immunization records as proof of vaccination. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs a variety of supportive technical and clinical tasks.
  2. Manages time effectively and prioritizes work to be accomplished.
  3. Recognizes pertinent changes in patient condition (e.g. changes in values/measurements, changes in patient status, parent concerns, etc.) and communicates them to the supervising licensed nurse, charge nurse, or medical care provider.
  4. Records observations and patient care interventions accurately within the electronic health record (EHR) and/or on appropriate forms.
  5. Works effectively with other departments (e.g. Lab, Social Work, Radiology, etc.).

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent  / On-the-Job Training
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and good time management skills
  • Strong desire to care for pediatric patients and families
  • Must be available for 8, 10, 0r 12 hour day shifts M-F during the training
  • Excellent attendance during the program is critical to success
  • Basic Life Support certification Required Upon Hire ( will be offered as part of the training)
  • Must be able to work 12 hour night shifts after training
  • Employees who are on current corrective counseling are not eligible

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $17.50/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and work experience.

 

 

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
