Weight Management Program

Effective weight management involves caring for the whole person. Kids in our Weight Management program receive care from a dedicated team of experts who are passionate about helping people have a healthier lifestyle.  We offer treatment to our patients in a variety of ways: clinic visits (both in person and virtually), group family based treatment programs, 1:1 coaching calls with education coordinators, and psychology/dietician visits to support families through treatment.

Our team includes registered dietitians, exercise physiologists, pediatric psychologists, education coordinators, social workers, pediatricians, nurses and nurse practitioners. We partner with families, children, and teens to create actionable plans to help them achieve and maintain a healthier weight.

The Weight Management program is part of Kansas City’s Center for Children’s Healthy Lifestyles & Nutrition under the leadership of Center Director Ann Davis, PhD, MPH, ABPP. As a partnership between Children’s Mercy, the University of Kansas Medical Center and other academic institutions, the Center represents an extension of the community’s collaboration in the area of pediatric obesity research.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses II (APRN-II) provides proficient, comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. An APRN II obtains a comprehensive health history; performs physical examination; formulates a plan of care and treatment; prescribes/performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and procedures; and participates in patient and family education. Each APRN-II demonstrates professional leadership and participates in evidenced-based practice, quality improvement, and/or research activities, and organizational development.
