Overview

The Patient Access Financial Supervisor will fulfill all supervisor functions including staff coaching, interviewing/hiring, staffing for a 24/7 area as appropriate, supporting department goals, effectively communicating and collaborating with leadership as well as staff, and representing leadership to internal and external customers. This position will supervise the daily operations and personnel within their assigned areas, and will assure optimal staff performance takes place. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing all processes within their assigned area.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervising all Patient Access financial processes in assigned areas and performing all applicable Patient Access tasks including pre-registration, financial clearance, financial counseling, pre-certification, denial review, data analysis and quality control of financial clearance activities, as it applies.
  • Responsible for all supervisory tasks within their area of responsibility.
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates with leadership for the advancement of hospital initiatives.
  • Responsible for supporting and uplifting staff during challenging patient interactions or financial discussions, fostering a culture of respect, and inclusion. The ideal candidate models calm, patient, and compassionate communication, especially when guiding frontline staff or interacting with families under stress. Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to balance empathy with operational efficiency are essential.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent college hours and 3-5 years experience. 3 years of prior work experience is required; with at least 2 of those years being in or combined experience in a revenue cycle position or leadership role, and the additional 1 year in a position with an emphasis on customer service, business office functions, or call center.
  • HS diploma or equivalent and 5-7 years experience 5 years of prior work experience is required; with at least 3 of those years being in or combined experience in a revenue cycle position or leadership role, and the additional 2 years being in a customer service, administrative, or call center role, with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • CHAM Preferred
  • Experience in leading a team and knowledge with an AGILE and/or LEAN approach. 
  • Experience or knowledge in change management support and initiatives. 
  • Ability to lead with empathy and kindness

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $26.80/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

 

 

Remote Work/Work from Home

This is an intermittent remote position, which means that the person hired will work with his or her manager to determine a schedule that includes both at home and on-site hours at a Children’s Mercy location. The incumbent must live in the Kansas City metro area.
