Thanks for your interest in Children's Mercy!

Do you envision finding a meaningful role with an inclusive and compassionate team? At Children’s Mercy, we believe in making a difference in the lives of all children and shining a light of hope to the patients and families we serve. Our employees make the difference, which is why we have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top pediatric hospital, for eleven consecutive years.

Children’s Mercy is in the heart of Kansas City – a metro abounding in cultural experiences, vibrant communities and thriving businesses. This is where our patients and families live, work and play. This is a community that has embraced our hospital and we strive to say thanks by giving back. As a leader in children’s health, we engage in meaningful programs and partnerships throughout the region so that we can improve the lives of children beyond the walls of our hospital.

Overview

A Genetic Counselor II participates in the collection of information necessary to provide diagnosis and counseling for disorders in which hereditary factors may play a role. The counselor may also provide information about the risk of recurrence, prognosis, burden, and natural history of the disorder in collaboration with a clinical geneticist. Counselors may serve as educators to patient groups, lay groups, professional groups, and students, including graduate and professional school students at the university level. A Genetic Counselor II is also involved in independently creating, organizing, and leading educational and administrative activities in the Section of Medical Genetics. The distinction between Genetic Counselor I and Genetic Counselor II is that the Genetic Counselor II by virtue of achieving American Board of Genetic Counseling certification is able to work more independently and fill a more expanded role. In addition, the Genetic Counselor II has had successfully submitted an abstract to a national meeting, collaborated with others on a research project and had the opportunity to supervise the activities of learners (medical students, residents, and genetic counseling students).

At Children’s Mercy, we are committed to ensuring that everyone feels welcomed within our walls.
