Overview

The primary function of the Data and Gift Specialist I is to process charitable donations made to Children's Mercy Hospital and Children's Mercy Hospital Foundation.

 

NOTE: We require a minimum 1 year of experience in fundraising or philanthropic operations including data entry, gift processing, and cash handling.

 

A basic knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation, as well as accuracy are very important. A customer service attitude together with tactful expression, spoken and written, are essential skills for communicating with department staff and donors.

 

This position requires a very detail-oriented person; a person who is willing and capable of working in a team environment. This person must use critical thinking skills in all aspects of this job. The decisions the Data and Gift Specialist I makes not only impacts the integrity of the information contained in constituent records, but also the accuracy by which outcome measures are evaluated. The candidate for this position must have basic computer skills as well familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel. Familiarity with internet use is also essential as it is often used to obtain additional information in researching constituents.

If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.

Responsibilities

Maintaining and Creating Records, Researching Records and Keeping Records Accurate and Updated:

  • Enters information and creates records for donors, volunteers and event attendees into Raiser's Edge.
  • Follows a systematic approach to keeping the records accurate for periodic reporting requirements.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the data; including periodic data clean up, importing data from other databases into Raiser's Edge and manual data entry of new records.

 

Processes Donations Efficiently and Accurately:

  • Collect daily donations received; evaluate, sort and total all donation made on a daily basis and batch to process.
  • Prepare and balance batches daily and prepare for remote deposit.
  • Analyze gifts to determine appropriate campaigns, funds and appeal for each gift to be processed.
  • Access donation type using back-up documentation provided by donor or independent research.
  • Enter and process all applicable coding, receipts and thank you letters into the Raiser's Edge donor database as required.
  • Process credit card and on-line donations daily, including refunds as needed.
  • Work with Philanthropy and Children's Mercy staff members about gifts received for specific areas or to follow up on missing information.
  • Track major Children's Mercy fund-raising events in the event module of donor software program.
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly data entry and reconciliation procedures necessary for processing revenue and related information to fully comply with Children's Mercy Hospital and Children's Mercy
  • Hospital Foundation and IRS rules. This includes remote deposit, cash deposit and report to Accounting, Treasury and Philanthropy staff.
  • Maintain the minimum standard of processing percentages set by the manager.

 

Assist Philanthropic Operations Team with Data Integrity Projects:

  • Obtain all related information for major and specialized gifts and those made at signature events and community fundraisers.
  • Work with Philanthropy team members identifying those participants who will be invoiced.
  • Perform data cleanup projects and maintain data integrity by working on projects to correct biographical and other information in the donor database.

 

Other Duties:

  • Volunteer at special events, as needed.
  • Produce and mail honor/memorial cards and acknowledgements daily.
  • Inventory office supplies and stationery.
  • Scan and file batches and all related documents, maintaining security and confidentiality of donation materials including keeping cash
  •  and checks locked in safe.
  • Answer main line telephone.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, or equivalent, and 1-2 years experience.
  • A minimum 1-2 years in fundraising or philanthropic operations including data entry, gift processing, and cash handling is required.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $18.74/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

 

 

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
