Overview

The Gastroenterology (GI) Technician assists the practitioner in the performance of endoscopic procedures. These procedures range in complexity from simple endoscopy to the more advanced diagnostic interventional procedures. The technician is responsible for maintaining the proper performance of equipment, proper storage, handling, and transport of equipment, ordering supplies and equipment, procedural room turn over with appropriate infection prevention practice, and ensuring the appropriate inventory level is maintained. The incumbent must possess technical skills to appropriately troubleshoot equipment issues and scope management, as well as, have a basic knowledge of GI anatomy and medical terminology. Demonstrates appropriate scope management knowledge and skills. Perform pre-, intra- and post-procedure functions in accordance with hospital, TJC, CMS, SGNA, FDA and other endoscopic procedural guidelines. Perform proper bedside reprocessing. Assists in the maintenance of a safe environment and promotes efficiency of operations. Demonstrates commitment to maintaining and improving departmental standards of care and practice. The technician may be required to travel to multiple locations and has variable shift coverage as needed to include call time. Weekend coverage may be needed.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of GI Procedure Room. Assists in the maintenance of a safe environment and promote operational efficiency.
  • Assists professional staff with patient care activities.
  • Attends educational programs, unit meetings and assigned committees. Participates in performance improvement activities and shares responsibility for teaching and orientation of new personnel (within own skill level).
  • Performs clerical functions.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent and No Experience necessary / On-the-Job Training OR Surgical tech, Instrument tech, or care assistant work would be helpful. Experience working with children and interested in the healthcare would also be beneficial.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $18.00/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
