The Director, Infection Prevention and Control is responsible for strategic leadership, Coordination and oversight of key programs within the organization aimed to improve care and services across the health care continuum. This position is responsible for engaging and working collaboratively with key administrative leaders, patient care services leaders, and staff across the organization to develop and implement infection prevention and control services. This position leads and oversees strategic planning, management of resources and process improvement priorities related to infection prevention practices. The individual in this role also leads the development, implementation and analysis of the organization's annual infection prevention & control program. Key program elements include infection surveillance, prevention and control activities, surveillance data analysis, guiding prevention and follow-up activities, evaluating the effectiveness of interventions, providing infection prevention education for hospital personnel and providing expert infection prevention guidance during infection surge events.

  • Leads and oversees all phases of strategic planning and operations pertaining to the Infection Prevention and Control Department.
  • Leads the performance improvement activities related to Infection Prevention and Control practices and prevention of healthcare acquired infections.
  • Effectively leads, models, communicates and educates on the evidence based principles of infection prevention and control. Develops systems to provide expert knowledge, oversight and education related to infection prevention control across the organization.  Collaborates with key partners including Infectious Disease, Antibiotic Stewardship and others to continually advance infection prevention and control practice.
  • Demonstrates effective resource management and stewardship for Infection Prevention and Control Department and for the organization related to infection prevention resources.
  • Initiates and/or participates in clinical research and scholarly activity.


  • Master's Degree (or within 3 years of hire) or
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • If incumbent holds a current professional license
  • RNs who reside in Kansas hold a Kansas Multi-State (Compact) License If RN Required Upon Hire
  • RNs who reside in Missouri hold a Missouri Multi-State (Compact) License If RN Required Upon Hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Certified Infection Prevention & Control Required Upon Hire

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
